Ping Tracer v1.9 Ping Tracer v1.9 Ping Tracer continuously pings each network host between your computer and a given destination, helping identify the source of connectivity problems. This program helps to visually determine the origin of connection problems. The latency over time is shown on graphs, and each instance of packet loss is marked in red. A common use for such a tool is to monitor your connection to a multiplayer game server so you know who to blame when you experience lag. For example, if you experience a terrible moment of lag and you see that every node beyond your router is showing elevated latency or packet loss, then the lag was on your end. Typically, a poorly performing node will affect your connection to every node after it. I built this program for personal use, and decided to share it for free as an open source project. As such, it is light on features and polish. Something you should be aware of is that when you attempt to "Graph every node leading to the destination", a trace route operation is performed in order to discover the hosts that will be monitored. The trace route operation is not optimized for speed, and will take many seconds to complete in most cases. The trace route operation attempts to contact each host (a.k.a. network node) only once. When you router detects the connection attempt your router then turns on the ports, thus you have port triggering, a on/off switch for port forwarding. Well the problem comes if you are using port trigging for a program that doesn't make a connection attempt, such as say a ftp server or hosting a game. If a connection is never detected the router never enables the ports. Well that's what Port Triggering Initiator is designed for. You enter the triggering port to make a connection on and give it a address outside your network. Any address will do even if the connection fails its the attempt that triggers the ports. Some quick notes: The program doesn't need any information about your router. The 'Local IP To Connect With' is your local IP, if you have more than one IP on your system it will be detected there. When your computer runs out of memory (RAM), Windows keeps things running by pretending that a reserved area of your hard drive is RAM. All of the information your that Windows and you programs generate is stored in a single file called pagefile.sys in this reserved area. This file can grow to be several gigabytes in size and does not get deleted when your computer is shutdown. Not only does this use up a sizable chunk of your hard drive, it also opens you up to skilled individuals retrieving this information from your hard drive. PreventPageFileSnoops changes a single registry value to force Windows to delete the pagefile.sys file when you shutdown your computer. AllowPageFileSnoops sets this value back to its default (do not delete pagefile.sys on shutdown). KEEP IN MIND Since the pagefile.sys is sometimes huge and depending on the speed of your computer and hard drive, it could take a few minutes to shut down your computer with this enabled.
